Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs

The concept of the outlaw motorcycle gang began in the late 1940’s. After a series of violent events the American Motorcyclist Association made the statement that 99% of all motorcyclists were good citizens with no interest in such violent actions. From this statement the concept of the 1%’er came about. 1% became the moniker of those bikers who wanted to be know as outlaws. Many of these bikers began wearing patches with 1% to show their breaking with the traditional motorcyclist organizations.
